Opening Day Announced for 2012

Registration is Still Open & Sponsorship Opportunities Available until March 31st
Troy, NY (3/8/12) With Spring in the air, the Troy Central Little League is pleased to announce its 2012 Open Day will be on April 28th. Opening day ceremonies will take place at Frank Welch Memorial Field located at 3130 Seventh Avenue (intersection of Swift Street & Seventh). In the meantime, registration is still open, and sponsorship opportunities are available until March 31st for parents to register their children.

“We have been serving the community since 1958, and are one of the few remaining chartered Little Leagues in the City of Troy,” said new league president Peggy Kownack. “We have been able to keep registration fees the same as they were in the 1970s.”  Troy Central Little League charges $25 per child ($15 for each additional child in a family) as a way of keeping little league baseball affordable to the families it serves. The mission of the newly installed Board of Directors is to ensure that all children ages 4-12 have the opportunity to play America's past-time.  92% of the children within league area qualify for the Federal/Reduced Lunch Program, many from single family homes. This year, approximately 60 children will compete in the Troy Central Little League. Little League, itself, is the world’s largest youth sports program with more than 2.8 million children and 1 million volunteers in more than 100 countries.

“In order for those bats to start cracking, we need to order uniforms, equipment and get new bleachers,” said Kownack. “It is vital that we get the help of local businesses and individuals to chip in, and become a sponsor.”

For those interested in becoming a sponsor:

$1500 – Doubleday Sponsorship includes: Your choice of League sponsorship (Major, Minor, Farm, T-Ball); Plaque for your place of business; Corporate logo on sleeve of all uniforms in league of choice; Corporate logo with link on our website; 4’ x 8’ poly banner displayed in centerfield for all events held; Listing in all league publications (i.e.: awards program; event flyers, etc.);

Have you registered your kids yet?

We know it's tough to think about baseball in February but believe it or not, opening day will be here before we know it and for the first time in years, the crack of the bat will be heard in Uptown North Central Troy.  That's right.  They'll be REAL little league baseball played at the Frank Welch Memorial Field this year.

The mission of the newly installed Board of Directors is to ensure that all children ages 4-12 have the opportunity to play America's past-time.  Registration fees are nominal so that as many kids can participate as possible.  Registration opened on February 11th and continues through March 24th.

We are grateful to Pastor Willie Bacote of Missing Link Street Ministry for opening up the Deacon Francis A. Lashway Computer Lab for our first registration session.  Our next session will be held at Oakwood Community Center from 11 am till 3 pm on Saturday, February 25th.  Two additional registration sessions are planned for early March.

Registering your kids is easy AND economical.  Given that our league is an inner-city league, we elected to keep our registration fees low - just $25.00.  Families with more than one child receive a break as each additional child is just $15.00.  Shirts & hats will be provided.  The only equipment your child needs is a glove.

When you come on the 25th, just bring your child's birth certificate and proof of address along with your payment.
